Nando Reis was born José Fernando on January 12, 1963, in São Paulo.
Influenced by his parents, he started listening to music at an early age. His mother was always humming and his father always listened to Jorge Ben Jor’s record. Afterwards, his older brother introduced him to Rolling Stones rock and his sister taught him to play the guitar. He got his first instrument at age 7 and started a strong passion for music. Soon he was introduced to the Beatles and Led Zeppelin by the family and his passion for the musical universe grew.
At age 12, he started taking guitar lessons and soon started making music. He always wrote a lot: “books”, poetry and liked to send letters a lot. He made music over long poems. He always liked long songs. In 78, he signed up for a festival with four friends and that’s how “Os Camarões”, a band inspired by the Banda do Zé Pretinho, by Ben Jor, and the Wailers, by Bob Marley, emerged. It was on that day that he took the stage for the first time defending the song Pomar, written by him.
